Eric - My marina is like that sort of at times - my brother-in-law told me one day "You do realize that you live in a trailer park on the water, right?". WHich, in a sense, is true. It's *cheap* to live on a boat, so you get some people who do it *only* for that reason. Of the folks who liveaboard here, mine is the only boat which leaves the dock with any sort of regularity. We have 8-10 full timers here, 2 of which will move their boats away from the dock once or twice in the year - the rest are all aboard just because of the money factor...

I guess it takes all kinds, huh?

Rates here are $8/ft if you pay a year in advance, $9/ft if you pay monthly.

Electric is $5/month + what you use (which isn't much - maybe $10 in winter?).

So - your slip cost (including the $5 for electric) would be around $266, paying monthly. Pay a year in advance, and your monthly cost would be ~$237.

There's no security, other than a *long* walk down a very exposed dock (with hi-res color video security cameras at the marina end), and plenty of folks who know who is supposed to be here, versus who are "strangers". Thievery is very rare around here.

No insurance regs.

The county hospital is within 2 miles of the marina. MUSC, a *major* medical center (best in the state) is in Charleston, about 60 miles away.

Here's a link to the marina website:

http://www.georgetownlandingmarina.com  (Website is down right now for some reason, I'll tell them about it in the morning...)

Plenty of slips open right now, they'll start filling up again in another month or so, soon as the weather starts to turn. :)

Hmmmm- makes my $3 ft /mo seem really cheap in comparison.

Tehani costs us $90 mo year round, elec $15 mo extra, no meter. We don't use elec so don't pay the extra.

There is an extra charge for liveaboards. I think that's $15 mo also.

Nautical Landings City marina- Port Lavaca Texas. Ain't got a phone number other than the dockmasters cell phone and I don't know that one. The one at the marina is in the day room, next to the computer, so it may or may not get answered.

for all who wonder ....the "extra info" is basically a "gerry springer marine edition "boat show.just watch a springer show an'yullno.update -----the situation is worsening.....the marina has no-----body guard or bouncers-----and fists are getting in the way of faces.what we have here is a serious case of trailer trash on the water.complete with cigarettes beer cigarettes beer cigarettes beer cigarettes beer cigarettes beer ,oh and also its called atlantic village marina, and in order to liveaboard you must be missing atleast 3 teeth,(thats where I qualify)).(if you are missing all 4 upper front teeth you qualify to be dockmaster,) or be pre-approved for section 8 housing, or have atleast one inter-racial illigitamate kid running around naked.,chasing after the cats and dogs.  (that should get me some applause)( kapn k YOU HAVE MY OK TO EDIT THAT OUT,BUT  I MUST SPEAK OUT)get the picture? you can by-pass those requirements simply by not using deodorant, this is how the bulk of the people fit in. one more thing:true account---if you are an american national and live on a 24 foot motorboat with a nationalized vietnamese  drug-addled woman ( heloed out at the last possible moment from saigon),and you have a small mutt that is  very mean and growls all the time, then you  must argue every nite at 3am because you found her on another guys boat.to givya an idea where it is,if you have a good throwing arm (and this is the truth) you can cause an airplane crash at the southernmost runway of the FT Llauderdale airport.when those jets go full throttle, there  is no doubt about it.and the smell of jet fuel abounds....

as fate would have it this place is being demolished.its going to be totally re-vamped as "documiniums" and they have all been sold.so I will be relocating the boat to a much more friendlier place.I hope whoever buys these slips likes airplane noise and jet fumes......

these "documiniums" as they are so called go for about 150,000 dollars plus monthly maintainence fees of about 600 per month, then theres electric, .water, and no---you can not live aboard----the bridge clearance is not even 10 feet--- that rules out most motorboats----

starcrest: reply #7 is about the funniest thing i have read lately.....my coke came up through my nose.....keep 'em coming....too bad you had to suffer in order to have the story to tell though....hope the air is fresher whereever you wound up.

starcrest

if you were at that marina the coke would be going back up your nose.too late the place is being totally re-vamped into condos.they are going to use the land developers construction crane to remove whatever boats remain.they will be put on land----and when the land owner says"get your boat off my property" if you dont----HE WILL.and you will be served with a sheriffs tresspass warning.
