Hi all,

I,ve been busy since last winter converting a Privateer 26 sloop to an authentic looking gaff rigged schooner. I launched the hull Tuesday, and now have the masts up and most of the rigging done. I hope to get the booms mounted and finish the rigging and bend the sails on this weekend.

Here are some pictures on Flicker of the project.  http://www.flickr.com/photos/20524843@N03/

I don't remember who said it, but it's true:

"There's something about a schooner that makes your heart go pit-a-pat."

This might not be an accurate rendition of the quotation, but however you say it, she's a beaut!

We have a ketch rigged Privateer here on the lake where I sail. She is sure a looker and I have had the pleasure of going out on it a couple of times and it is a lot of fun to sail. Good luck on getting her finished and have fun sailing her.

Any sail boat regardless of size is a potential world cruiser, but a power boat is nothing more than a big expense at the next fuel dock

Beautiful conversion.  Send pics under sail when you get out there!

I hope to get pictures under sail in a day or two. My wife and I sailed her under the 4 lower sails, in light winds a couple days ago. She sailed exceptionally well, doing 4 knots in 7 knot wind. The helm was perfectly balanced, and the boat tacked easily.

Here is a picture of three of the lower sails.

A short video of the schooner sailing Carlyle Lake, Illinois. I love the way it sails!
