Alberg 30 Keel Dimensions

Looking for some help. I am building a trailer for my Alberg 30 and I working on keel support. Can anyone tell me the length of the keel from just forward of the rudder shoe to the front of the keel? And also the keel width? My best guess from looking at pictures is about 9-10" wide and about 8ft long. Been driving around local boat yards, No Albergs... closest one I know of is about 2hrs away.

Also, you might want to mention if you are asking about a liner boat or a pre-liner boat.  It may matter; I can't recall if the keels are identical or not.

My boat in a liner boat, 1971 . I searched the A30 list. Lots of trailer posts, nothing specific as to keel dimensions that I could find. Any help you could provide would be great. I am gathering the steel needed to build keel support over next few days. Planning on welding support into trailer this weekend.

I built a trailer for a Bristol 24 a few years ago. I welded a piece of wide channel iron for the keel support. I left the "U" up, and bolted a 2 x 8 treated board in the channel. My side supports are adjustable angle and 2 x 4 cedar, that can easily be removed for painting the keel.

My trailer is rigged to float the boat off and on for launching. I use adjustable pads, and have used the trailer with 3 different boats, by adjusting the pads and keel side supports.

As i posted earlier i needed dimension for a trailer to get my Alberg 30 home for a refit. I tried doing the v berth in the marina and just wasn't able to get it done, too hot, too cold, good sailing weather....anyway just too many distractions to work on the boat while in the water. So I decide to take her out and bring her home. Called a few places and to get her home was going to run $1000 each way plus hauling out fees....what? 15miles.... I just figured it would be money wasted. I wanted to invest in a trailer, Price tag near $5-6,000....yikes. Next option build one. I decided to look around for something used that I could modify. Here what I ended up with for $900 28ft trailer, 2-6000lb axles built for a chesapeake deadrise. It is made of heavy duty material. All I have to do it make it work for a sailboat... So far, here what I've got

Looks like a good practical solution.  Make sure you have trailer brakes.  You got go, but to whoa a heavy boat you'll need brakes on the trailer.  I can't see if you have mobile home axles or not.  I converted a trailer with them to the standard 6 bolt hubs. That also let me put new bearings in the hubs as well.  Pretty reasonable IIRC.  I had a Chevy truck, and the bolt patterns were the same, so the truck spare worked for the trailer as well. I see you're pulling with a Ford.  You might be able to get hubs with a Ford bolt pattern, and use your truck spare if needed.  Build a nice trailer, it's easier to go to windward at 55 mph  ;D

I am pulling it with a Ford, just not the Ford in picture....the old jalopy in picture is my daily gas gussler. I will be using a friends F350 Diesel dually. One of the things trailer does not have is trailer brakes...yet. I am only moving the boat 15miles with a pretty good sized vehicle. We will be taking it slow. Trailer brakes will be added to trailer at a later time.

Good to see someone extending the size of a "trailerable" boat up to include an Alberg 30 (one of my favorite sailboat designs).

I've done some similar work on my trailers, and have found that the Triad [no affiliation] trailers had some good designs to refer to and base my work on, especially for bow stop/winch stands. (such as the one below, for an Alberg Commander 26, the weekender model of its sister Ariel 26.) They are fairly pricy, but I did purchase a galvanized float-off trailer from them new for my Cape Dory Typhoon about 20 years ago, and it is holding up well. Since then I've picked up two other used Triad tandem trailers for reasonable prices (although not galvanized).

Yes Triad does offer a very nice trailer and they are very proud of them as the prices reflects!!! :o If I had more money than time I might consider one, but to be honest, I really am enjoying building this one.

Here is mine almost finished, I will have about $2100 in it and for the most part will be like new. I am a DIYer and enjoy learning and doing these things myself and most of all saving money. No way I would or could afford a Triad. If I didn't build the trailer myself my Alberg refit would have had to be completed at the dock. A shipper wanted 11-1,300 each way to bring it to my house(15miles mind you) and I still needed to rent a crane....to me that would have been a complete waste of money. Local yard wanted $15/day....that wasn't going to happen...over a year or 2 time would have cost nearly $10000

Yep, (as I said)...pricey. I bought the one new galv single-axle for the Typhoon, and still have it. Got the two tandems quite reasonably. I had a chance to get another nice old tandem 7k-lb one for $300, but didn't act quickly enough, and it was sold.

I modified one of the trailers to add a bow stop/winch stand similar in design to what they typically do. I really enjoyed the steel working and welding, too, so I know what you mean.
