Serving Mallet

Just had to share....  Building a couple Portuguese fishing boat style dinks and wanted to wrap the oars to prevent wear and noise at the oar locks. Getting the wraps tight enough can be a chore so i hacked up a quick and dirty "serving mallet".  Learned to use one back in my days as a "deck-ape" in the Navy.

Took an old hardwood meat tenderizer, and chopped out a 3" radius out of the head. Added a scrap parts spool (don't need a helper to pass the line) and it works GREAT.  Wraps are tighter than a Scotsman's wallet, and it only takes about 5 minutes to put a 10" wrap on a 1.5" oar.  Plan to use it to wrap the tiller handle, and do some fancy work on the pushpit etc. 

Now if I can get someone to hire me to  worm, parcel and serve their standing rig I will be in good shape... ;D
