This was my big haul year. I was going to get lots of things done. Spend lots of money. Square things away for awhile. Then go sailing.

Well...son-of-a-gun, if I didn't just lose my job. Ouch. I can't put more money into poor Seeker (I at least need bottom paint and a launch) until I secure new employment. I mean, I have enough money to finish the job; but if the job search goes long I may be missing that money later. This means I may not launch this year.

On the other hand, the employment market is looking pretty good, so maybe it won't be a big deal. Heck, maybe I'll get a better salary.

Then there is the temptation to just spend the money, finish the projects, launch, and disappear for a year or so. Tempting, tempting... If only I didn't have this stupid Responsibility gene.

Drink some rum, it kills that "responsibility" thing. Then go sailing for a year.

That's my vote. ;D

Godot,
Sorry to hear about the job. If you can't move forward move sideways. Get some time intensive but cheap or almost free projects done in the mean time. On the flip side, I have been working way too many hours and have zero time for my boat or sailing. Trying to get her up to Bristol to sell but very little time to get anything done. I try to get a few semi major things done every time I make it to the marina for a few hours.

Have that drink of rum and then go sailing.  As you say in your tag line "The horizon beckons."

My co worker and I both lost our jobs 10 years ago. I said I was going to cross the Atlantic. He said he was going to pack his car and go for a very long drive. I sailed across the Atlantic, he stayed home. Today, we both work together again. I have memories. He has regrets.
