Hey y'all - We did not get near what Florida did, but it is pretty bad here now. Just checked local weather station a few miles away on land and its reporting sustained winds a bit over 40 and gusts up to 55 ish. I'm praying winds are moderating just a bit. It's been blowing since dawn, in the "bad direction" for the marina, where there is several miles of fetch. Adding insult to injury, is teh flood water still in the Bay from Florence, *and* high tide - allowing for larger swells, 3' at least. These are not wind chop. I've lost two dockboxes and the docks are quite literally going to pieces all around me and the boats. I'm on the I36, w/Katie and Sundance in the neighboring slip. If it doesn't get any worse and nothing else bad happens, me and the boats and crewdog Barque will have weathered it OK. The waiting sucks. Done all that I can. The boat is getting lashed by the spray of the waves breaking over the dock. It seems tho that we are starting to get a little movement in wind direction towards the SW and the further it goes that way, and sooner - the better.
Will post an update later in the day, fingers crossed everything out there will look like it does now, meaning it didn't get worse and nothing else bad happened. :)
Man I am ready for storm season to be over...

Curious: mph or kt?

Nothing here despite TS watches and a slew of cancellations for today.  I think folks are still on edge from Florence.  Michael was forecast to peak here 5 minutes ago; max wind so far 23 kt with gusts upper 30's, maybe low 40's.  1/4" rain.

Sending you "calm" thoughts, Kurt.  3 footer IN the marina is rough!

It was mph's. The meter on top of our ship's store measured 58 and some as the highest, sustained in the low 40's.

Forecast? 25mph.

::)

As our esteemed CJ says, "lying weather weasels"... :D

I was optimistic at the time I posted that it was lessening. It continued, maybe got a tiny bit worse, for the next 2 or so hours, before we even started getting a shift, and then a while after that, some moderation. I didn't leave the boats until well after noon, to go see how the rest of the marina faired. Apparently, we are at the pointy end of the stick. :D The rest of it suffered little or no damage. I'll get a pic or two up and post a link to a short video soon. Right now is/has been since about 4, time for "decompression".

That's involving a little Pussers. :D

The videos do capture the conditions well, especially the second one.
Sure does seem like a lot of motion to put up with in the home slip.

Thanks for sharing the videos, and grog.

Thankfully it is extremely rare to get motion anywhere even near what we had yesterday at this time... :)

Today, it's a whole different story:

Having been aboard an Alberg 30 in a marina in not-dissimilar conditions, that sure was cool seeing that boat just take it all in stride.  Very cool.

A few gusts yesterday evening were stronger than I expected because it got "up" a bit after things were SUPPOSED! to be calming back down.  Nothing like you had, though.  We actually lost power here for about 2 hours which was probably just a limb or something relatively minor.

This morning was absolutely gorgeous.

There was more boat carnage in the City Anchorage, which surprised me.  One boat was aground over by where the ramp's courtesy dock is supposed to be (still not replaced after Florence), and another looked sunk and sideways near the old dock remnants.  Wild.  I did not think it was THAT bad out there, so it truly makes me wonder how folks are anchoring.

Pretty bad here in panama city... infrastructure still down. the whole city got pretty much whipped out. the eyewall passed about 5 miles east of me. virtiually all marina and boats were destroyed and every structure seems to have some damage. i had 30 docklines out and a big anchor and only suffered a little dock rash. but am one of the very few survivors
