Boat for Great Loop

The author did the Loop in a 28 foot sailboat using $1,300 worth of fuel.

Another person travelled in a 15 foot sailboat using 225 gallons of gas for the entire loop.  Both of these examples are for captains who did not sail at all, but if you can lower and raise the mast, there are parts of the loop that you can sail.

I mainly look at the Great Loop as a way to snowbird and eventually get to the Bahamas, but it might be fun to see the whole loop and do the summers in the Great Lakes and winters in the Bahamas.

What kind of boat would you choose for this?

The one I have, 28' Sabre. I would step the mast so one could sail much as possible.
It would be pretty cool to do this in an electric boat.

As they say, "The boat you already have."  I hope to do the full Great Loop someday, but in the mean time, I have been doing bits and pieces. I have a 2002 Catalina 250 WK on a trailer. I have done the rivers from Chicago to Kentucky Lake. Last summer, I did Georgian Bay from Midland, Ontario to Little Current, ON. I have also done sections of Lake Michigan. I am hoping to do Little Current, ON to Mackinac City, MI summer of 2020.
I have sailed what/when I could, but frankly I have done a lot of motoring.
