Oriental has a New Years day regatta every year and this year I took the new to me Orion out. There was a small craft advisory in effect, but that didn't stop the 30+ boats from attending. Winds were 14-18pmh with gust to 25 and waves were 2-2 1/2'.  What a difference sailing a full keel, heavy displacement boat in those conditions.  The ride was dry and comfortable.  We had a blast and one of the crew was a virgin to sailing so that was an extra bonus. It will take me some time to acclimate to the new boat and learn her nuances, but she already has her anchor firmly embedded in my soul.

As I read the numbers I was thinking "Perfect for that boat..." :D

The young couple I bought my first mono from kept it at the house of one of their Dad's, up Whittaker to the "T" at the end, the lot on the eastern corner. It was a ComPac 23 which they were selling because they'd bought a Dana 24. When I got there, the CP23 was docked right behind the Dana, which in turn was docked right behind Dad's Westsail 32. I figured that was a good omen. :)

Glad you are off to an auspicious start, and Happy New Year! It's gonna start *cold*... (Grr...)

I have 2 friends with Westsail 32s. Very fine and good looking boats. The Orion was at Whittaker Creek Marina for the short haul. Not 5 minutes after leaving, I ran aground. Luckily I was moving at less than 2 knots and backed off immediately. Very recently they paid a ton of money to dredge the channel and no one is happy with the results. Rather than a straight shot to the river, it's a long double S and not within the channel markers.

The shifting sands of time show no respect for any man - or keel... Right? ;)

I'm supposed to be picking up a "new" (to me) one for the Fleet on Saturday. It's a NN-10 nesting dink, 10'2" LOA (5'8" folded), 53" beam, with sails and rigging. No longer produced since some time in the early twenty-teens, they were made by a family shop in Canada. I remember seeing the ads and always wanting one, but the price was far, far out of reach at like $3500 or more. This one fell into my lap for about the price of the hardware on it. Of course, it needs some work - like all of them do. ;)

My Christmas present, via the return of the waterproof boots and a camping cot my sisters had otherwise given me, lol. ;D
