Having a boat that did not have a large production run I find it hard to locate other owners. If your interested in any information I would be glad to share all I have. Triska my Alberg 29 was built in Ontario Canada by Nye Yachts. She is hull 131 built in 1983. The builder started hull nubers at 100. She is made to the last design change Carl Alberg made to any of his designs. According to Carls account she is the nicest of his desings and he loved to sail the 29. She has a little more beam at aprox 9'2" and draws slightly more water at 4'6". She is 8" shorter than her sister the Alberg 30 but has a full gally and an added Port side aft burth. She sails well in light air at just around 10,000 lbs loaded. She uses a Yanmar 2GM for an Aux engine with a 13"/10 prop the cobo will push her at 6.5 Kts at 2800 rpm. At cruise speed she burns just over a quart per hour. (2200)rpm. Sloop rig. Keel steped mast. Internal lead Keel , full with cut away forefoot.  She is a typical Alberg with beautiful lines and a great sailor. Sailing in wind 5 to 30kts is a nice day. She heels little and is very stiff and stable in Higher winds.

In many ways, the Alberg 29 is the refinement and culmination of the concept behind the original Alberg 30. It has a slightly more modern look about it. Like the older Alberg 30, this boat has a full keel and places a high priority on seaworthiness. The cleats, portholes, and other equipment are robust and indicate that the Alberg 29 was designed for bluewater cruising. Despite its full keel design, owners report that when the wind picks up, the Alberg 29 can point quite high and has a good turn of speed. Below decks, the Alberg 29 offer 6' 2" (1.9 m) of headroom, but with its emphasis on seaworthiness, it does not have quite as much interior space as some other beamier 29 and 30 footers.

Well looks like Im going to have to leave the board. My wife Ruth and I sold Triska our Alberg 29 last Sunday. Our house is on the market and we are getting ready to move.   Move aboard that is. We have been looking for a new residence for over two years.  This boat just became available and right in my back yard. We had to move fast so we did. After some initial offers and counter offers our offer was accepted. So now we have a Formosa 51. I dont think we qualify for 30' or under anymore. Angelique our new boat will be cruising Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands this year. If you see us please give a shout and drop in for a cool beer.  We hope to see you on the water.

LOL Zen! ;D

Jack - naw, you don't have to leave! In fact, you might provide the perfect perspective for us, as you learn and deal with what is the reality of moving up to such a larger boat. Would love to see you stick around!

She's a beauty!

I bet you sit below and it seems like a convention center in there... ;D

I have had bigger boats....not a 'ship' like yours , but bigger boats. One item I treasure on a smaller boat is the anchor.Suddenly a really windy night in the Bahamas and a 25lb anchor is a 'warm an fuzzy feeling' rather than a marginal 'sleep with one eye open' type night. Just how big is a 'warm and fuzzy' on a windy night anchor on that ship??

Well Im sorry. I was just getting started on this site. I have been off of it for a while. My wife and I have been very busy. we sold our beloved Alberg 29 and are movong on. On to a Formosa 51 that is. we sold the Alberg, the house, and most of our landside possetions and are now living on our boat. We are moored in Tacoma in the Foss Waterway marina. End tie big Navy blue hull. Drop by for a visit or give us a shout when you pass by.  It,s been one heck of a job and there is still plenty to do for us to feel truly at home but were 90%there.  If anyone is interested in how we did it (moving aboard) E mail me at dgyoung_2000@yahoo.com and we will share the whole story. Our experiances and how it all came about.

well were not sailing a pocket cruiser anymore. It's been fun over the years having the Alberg but my wife and I have sold the Alberg and have moved up. It was a big jump and we are now living aboard our Formosa 51. I wish you all fair winds.

Even though you're on a Formosa 51, it doesn't mean that you have to go... as long as you have the attitude and respect the idea of doing long voyages in small boats... :D  Given that you have family to consider, moving aboard a small boat was probably not an option...

Jack, Congrats on an awesome boat.  There is one for sale in the marina where I used to keep PD in Carrabelle, FL.  Beautiful boat.   The interior wood was gorgeous.
NOW- Just because you are living in a bigger house does not mean you have to forget your roots.   :D ;)
You do not have to go anywhere!
Enjoy the new home and Fair Winds!!

Jack,

Now just because you and Bob Bitchin have Formosas dosen't mean you can't post here anymore.  All kidding aside that is a great boat and to be live aboards is even better.  Send us some pictures when you get them.  What is her name?  Best of luck.
