Three weeks ago Thursday we started a pair of B and B Yachts 13 foot Birders for ourselves. In addition I've started on a Core Sound 20 for a customer. Almost ready to make it look like a boat. That's the plywood panels on the floor.

But this is about the Birders- here's what they look like after those 3 1/2 weeks of work. Couple more things to fit and they'll be ready for paint.

The one on the horses weighed 24 pounds without the deck. The one on the floor weighed 26. I suspect they'll run right at 30 pounds finished.

CJ - Those look really good! And the weights, they're fantastic for 13' deck boats! As light as some whitewater boats. I bet I know who gets the heavy one. ;D

But -

Paint?!? C'mon! I wanna see Lauras fine varnish work on those puppies! :D

J/k of course, that'd be a nightmare to maintain.

Will you coat them with epoxy pre-paint, though?

Well, done enogh so I could take mine fishing this morning ;D

Laura has been working on them- she sanded and prepped the decks and sprayed 3 coats of varnish, then prepped the hulls so I could just walk around them with the spray gun.

Mine weighs 34 pounds- the one with the rod holders. Laura's came in at 32 pounds- her rod holders are still laying on my work bench.

Spooked one pretty good sized redfish because I came around a corner too fast and wasn't watching. He took off like a rocket ;D He was only in about a foot of water- they get REALLY shy in that kind of water.

I'll try again really soon though- it's only about 3 miles from the house to where I launch and fish. LOTS of small creeks, canals, all running through a salt marsh off a 3 by 3/4 mile saltwater lake.

Wow, wow. They are looking great!!!

We had the G-town Woody festival here this past weekend, no doubt you would have been a contender, even with the stiff competition. ;D Saw some gorgeous boats, but alas, forgot to take my camera with me... <insert head-slapping icon>

My friend Andy and his coworker/employee Nick set a new world record for building the 12' Georgetown Bateau. Start to finish, raw wood to floatable boat complete with oars, took them 1 hr and 27 minutes. ;D

Of course, it didn't look anywhere near as good as your kayaks.  8)

They were slow in the racing part of the competition, though, and only netted 4th place.

I've been wanting to go out and see if I can trick a red into biting, they've been around. I did take my plastic yak out for a little fishing (first time for that) a couple weeks ago. It's amazing, the difference from roaring up to a spot and wetting a line. It feels more like stalking/hunting than fishing, almost. ;D

That 'dolpyang' logo is so cool... :)
