Last night I was showing a fellow liveaboard my copy of Brion Toss' "The Complete Riggers Apprentice", and while doing so I realized that this was a book that will _always_ be aboard my boat. Besides being eminently readable, it is also an invaluable reference, and that earns it a place in my traveling library.

There are a few books I have like this, and many more that I hold in high regard but will have to leave behind (like Casey's "This Old Boat"), due to a lack of storage space for them. I just plain read too fast to keep with me every book I read and like, unless I were to scale up to a vessel in the 120 foot range. :)

Some that stay will be fiction, or tales, others spiritual/philisophical, others for reference like the above. I'd be interested to see which books are going to go on trips with others here. Might be fascinating, and might lead me to a book or two that I should have, but don't yet...

Offhand, I can think of these books of my own which are "go-ers":

Toss' "The Complete Rigger's Apprentice"
Lechter's "Self-steering for Sailing Craft"
Bannerots "Cruisers Handbook of Fishing"
Richards "Princess"
Bachs "Illusions" and "Jonathan Livingston Seagull"
Probably a copy of Chapmans.
Herd's "The Cruising Cook"
The Tao, and a Bible

There are a few more, I know, so I'll add them later... :)

Lechters "Self Steering"

Well, if I *HAD* Lechter's book, it would probably be on my go-list.

Uh, make that 21 copies.   ;)

For the record, I have checked on Amazon periodically, and have never had the right timing or something.  Each time, it's been unavailable.  I've been looking for buy it for several years.

Just wondering if it would be worth contacting the publisher about doing another printing of Lechter's book.  It is obviously very much in demand and hard to get.

Thoughts?
