Measure Twice, Cut Once

On the topic of "do it yourself" and, um, quality of workmanship, I have a quick story from this morning's adventure in home improvement.

Our crawlspace has sufficient standing headroom that we decided to close-in part of it with a slab floor for a storage/work area.  Personally, I prefer to build something rather than 'make it fit,' but oh well.

So this morning I was working on the last section of wall.  I cut every stud, all five of them, 3 inches too short.   >:(

I subtracted 1.5 inches rather than adding 1.5 inches, and AGAIN this issue arose from me doing something a little differently than I usually do it.

It's a humbling, really.  I was feeling just a little too good for making nice, square cuts with my skillsaw.  Alls not lost, though.  I think I can use most of the too-short pieces for when I make the door  to get to the rest of the crawl space.

So, should I give up and hire someone to finish it for me?   ;D ;D

I used to work as an electrical and when I was doing an interview I used to the the person that I was so good that I can cut the same piece of pipe 3 times and it would still be short. ;D
