Brand New Hanse Fails to Meet Owner's Expectations

I saw this thread over on R-C, and particularly noted the following points:

  • The list of failures is partly serious stuff we would all have to contend with, but partly some stuff I would never have on my boat.  To each their own, but this list helps solidify in my mind what can happen with an overabundance of "systems," and it just ain't for me.
  • Hanse's "reputation" seems to mentioned quite a bit; this reputation seems fueled more by advertising than by actual experience.  " It's too bad, they are beautiful and very expensive boats"  and "asked a very experienced manager at the boatyard I use about his experience with Hanse Yachts. Apparently these problems are familiar to the guys in the boat repair business!" are salient quotes from the thread.
  • Others are noting the importance of staying smaller with older, trusted boats.

It bears repeating: Go Small...go simple .... go now.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  -Mark Twain

Ummm....and they paid how much for this piece of wunderkind German engineering??? LOL. One other thing.... many states don't have very strong laws protecting boat owners as consumers.  Only a few have boat-related lemon laws IIRC.
