Rain Rain Go Away...

My wife and I are on our boat every weekend either working or sailing her. Well with the Holidays and now rain this past weekend and forcast for this weekend I feel a little sailing jones...DT's you know the shakes...I WANT TO GO SAILING. How do you folks in harsher climates deal with having to put your boats away for the winter? Don't know if I could. Anyway we are spending New Years Eve on the boat Rain or Shine maybe work some projects.

I never put my boat away for the winter,we do have to tuff it out during hurricane season which seems to be never ending here.Those who dont prepair appropriately suffer the deep six consequences.and that doesnt just happen in the news on tv or in the movies.it happens in real life and it only has to happen once.since I had this boat I miraculously survived hurricane jean of 2004 that totally destroyed the marina I was at .out of 60 boats ten remained afloat.It rains like clockwork here in south florida so it doesnt bother us at all.infact nearly the entire intercoastal is one big free anchorage that turns into a grave yard for boats of all sizes.

I just came back from our Marina, to do some stuff...I did not make it!!

The Marina is flooded. The whole parking lot is under water!!! :o

I saw a VW with wate up to the doors.

I sail all year around too. For Christs sake its a boat. Havent you ever sailed in the rain, or better yet in the snow. Get on with it . Get some good rain gear and go. You might just like it .

I did a sail around an Island here in the rain and ended up not getting back until after dark. Big alligator drops. Once it got dark it was awesome. As the drops hit the water it made a circular glow due to the phosphorescence in the water. All I could see was a green glow of drops everywhere with a trail of it out to sturn.

Happy New Year from the afore mentioned harsher climates. Living aboard in Ontario Canada means the boat is never put away. I agree with Jack Tar about sailing in the rain - it is a boat - unfortunatly, here the snow brings other conditions which makes sailing hard - like when the water goes stiff. Great fun for the ice boats. You haven't seen fast sailboats until you've witnessed one of them go.
Quit cursing the rain and buy yourself some foulies.

You forget this is Southern California when it rains we close the streets, business and schools. And God forbid the temperature drop below 50 we don't go out of the house.

This is begining of high tide at our marina, after two days of rain & 7 ft tides

the blue VW is at the end of the parking lot, in front of it is the walkways to the slips.

It never rains in California...

I never minded rainy days....if travelling..less buzy,neat fading shades of grey.If at anchor...ya don't feel guilty havin a 'down day' reading-sleepin-????

That's exactly how we spent our New Years weekend, on the boat, reading watching football napping..."repeat"..."repeat. etc...

Ditto that. I was fogged in at Florida, lots of rain, wind and tornado warnings. I got to sail on NY eve day, then as the fog was rolling in, headed back to the dock. The fog set in for 2 days- heavy. Kind a cozy...got to read, relax, take a nap, clean the bilge, replace the head intake hose... you know how it goes. I just like being on the boat.

Not only is it too cold to even think about putting anything in the water, but to top it off, we haven't had even 15 minutes of sunshine since before Christmas ....... I'm dyin' here.

Thank God at least the days are starting to get longer now, but MAN it seems like March and the chance for some spring like weather is a heck of a long ways off yet.

It was 62 degrees here in Northern Ca SF Bay area this Sunday. Not much wind though.

I saw two sail boats out...
I could not figure what they were doing or how for that matter. They were both sitting in one spot, not moving but the Spinnakers were full.

It was 40 dregrees this morning though...Suppose to go to 60 again today. ;D ;D :D

62 degrees F - I'd be sailing. Not that its cold here - we had a few days last month, but so far it has been down right temoerate (45 deg F). If I could only figure out how to get the rig back up without ruining the shrinkwrap ;D

Up here, in the Great White North, we look upon January, at least the end of the month, as half way through the crummy sailing season. We get our fix at the boat shows then start projects in February. As anyone who has ever lived aboard can tell you, major construction (cabinets - refashioning settees - even re-upholstering is a giant pain when this is your living space.

Sigh - how many more days till April?

Wife and I got the boat out for a couple of hours yesterday. First time since around Thanksgiving. That's when we started decorating the boat for the parade. Hard to sail with 7,000 lights on her. I think everybody had the same idea there was a lot of boats out. We ran into three freinds each on their own boats. Small world this boating community.

Hi Solace, this winter has been crazy. It has been in the high 30 and low 40 for the last month here in Lake St. Clair Michigan. I wish it would make up its mind. Eight feet of snow or 80 degrees. I am getting so tired of almost freezing and gray. I drove my dad down to Fl. on Jan 1st and flew back on the 3rd. It was the first time I'd seen the sun for two months. Just bitchin' Cheers.
