Heard about this over on Renegades, thought it needed passing around - see pictures here, and details of what happened here (clip from that story quoted below). There is a PayPal link on the fellows site, if you'd care to donate.

Frank - if you see this, please check your PM's.

QuoteMan homeless after boat blown into rocks

PALM BEACH SHORES — Scarf was four decades old. The sailboat had crossed the Atlantic, stopped in Venezuela and Tobago and endured two years of Quebec's arctic cold. Engineless for two years in the Caribbean, its captain kept it on course.

But strong winds at the Lake Worth Inlet Sunday morning did in the 1968 Armagnac, cracking the wooden boat against jagged rocks along the sea wall, destroying Edward Mark Rouvier's home of seven years.

Rouvier, a Frenchman, was on his way to the Bahamas with his girlfriend, Jacinthe Croteau, 27, of Quebec, Canada.

The crash left him homeless and pacing the jetty all day, looking for remains of the ship and belongings that washed up on the rocks.

"The boat is everywhere here," Rouvier, 30, said early Sunday evening.

He had recovered a flour container and a propane tank, parts of the hull and the compass.

It appears to be one of these, an Armagnac by Aubin. Built in '68, just shy of 28' LOA.

Oh that really makes me sad. That's the true nightmare for every mariner...

Too bad.

Truly tragic!  :(

Ed emailed me back, and he said that after this incident, he will be away from boating for a little while, of his own choice. I think he is heartbroken over the loss of his vessel, which he personally had put much effort and care into restoring.

Let's hope that the situation works out the best it can for him, however that may be. :)
