I was at the boat today, and tried (cough cough) to go out for a little while.  But alas, I was relegated to spectator status while getting some cleaning and organizing/planning projects done.

In the morning, it was dead calm.  Around 1200, the breeze started picking up a little bit.  By late afternoon, it was blowing pretty hard.

Caught this cool little boat going by.  On the Starboard tack, they were just cruising down the Sampit River. Note the leeboard - that's their draft under sail.  This is a perfect boat for gunkholing along the SC coast.

Shortly after I took that shot, they tacked to come across the river, which bends just below that point.  It was pretty cool watching him drop the windward leeboard before tacking.

Coming across, they caught a puff.  Actually, this puff carried them about a 1./4 mile plus down the river toward the bay.  She handled beautifully working through the anchored and moored boats, close hauled in 12-15 kts of breeze.

Don't know who they were, but grog to them for some fine small boat handling!!

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  -Mark Twain
