Not the most exciting of subjects, but IMO good service / product always deserves a plug.......

About 10 years or so ago I was down in Oz for a while - went out on a group Charter for a few days (The Whitsunday Islands - well worth a visit by boat).......skipper had a strange looking piece of headgear to keep the Sun off (Oz no Ozone layer  :P).......and I thought to myself "that's a good idea".......but in this part of the world never seen similar for sale.

But I bought a couple recently from Frillneck Products in Australia.

Quick to answer an E-mail query, took around a week to arrive and quality is excellent (kinda worried on that one).

Obviously in this part of the world Sun is not quite the same issue as in Oz, but we don't do badly and of course Sun, Salt, reflection and wind does all add up.......apart from the Sun I bought them on the basis that as a hat they are less likely to blow off! and also provide a bit of a neck scarf to keep the chill off and some light rain / spray protection.......they have about 10 ways to fold things / wear them. They make 'em in different weights of cloth and loads of colours / patterns.

Downside of course is that perhaps best not to wear one if sailing from overseas into certain countries  ::)

Interesting, but I still prefer my Tilley Hat. :)

In the HEB grocery stores on the gulf coast of Texas they sell a very similar hat for $10. Only difference is their back flap doesn't wrap around the sides as far. It does cover the ears and neck/shoulders. Last time I was at the coast I bought four more and gave all but one away. I now have two and they are used all the time I'm on the water. Great protection. I'd like to get one of those puppies though. talk about sun block!
