Ventilation in the drop board

Some time ago we installed a Nicro solar day/night vent up on the fore cabin hatch, set to exhaust. Worked fairly well but we had no way for fresh air to get INTO the boat. I was reading an old copy of Good Old Boat one night a few weeks ago and Voila- found the write up for one set into a drop board.

So I built one. The work got interupted many times and it took lots longer than I thought it would due to other jobs taking priority, but here 'tis.

Pictures from outside, inside and of the plug I built to drop between the inner and outer lexan ppieces, to close it off when we didn't want the air flowing. Mosquitos will be no problem because we have a separate drop board that is all screen.

Good idea, I like that. It would be some serious snot when you had to worry about water coming in through that! ;D

You might want to add a screen to the interior side of it so creepy crawlies and flying things can't get in via the vent.

We have a separate drop board that is all screen for that problem. Oddly enough, I don't have a picture of that.

This vent is primarily to get through ventilation in the boat when we aren't aboard. I installed a nicro solar day/night vent up forward, but there was no place for air to get INTO the boat. This fixes that.

Also lets us see out the back of the cabin when the weather is nasty, which is nice.

Screen on the inside would keep you from placing/removing the 'plug', no?

I was thinking of wasps and such possibly taking up residence while you are away. :)  Know it can be a problem, and thought a piece of screen with velcro could stop them from entering the cabin. :)
