Tom, what does the hull show- this is kinda important.  Take a smaller hammer and tap around the soft spots. Find all the soft spots if you can. Outline them with pencil. Is the water coming in from the chainplates? The winches or ports? Charlie is a shipwright. I don't think you are (yet) but you are about to get your feet wet in a big way.
