Ran across the blog today of a fellow who has done some long distance cruising on a Yarmouth 23.

I particularly found his blog entry titled "Sailing Solo across the Atlantic in a small boat is too dangerous quite interesting.

In this post, he addresses the 'naysayers' he consistently hears from and gives a bit about how he combats the negativity.

His other entries are entertaining and informative as well.  This site is well worth a read.

Grog to you, Capt., for this link!

This sailor seems like a City of London type who's had it with "risk management" and decided to do something he loves -- sail. Good for him.

BTW, the Yarmouth 23, according to the boat builder's website

is one gorgeous, seaworthy-looking gaffer, built by the same company that makes the Fisher motorsailers (boats that are based on North Sea trawlers).

I've never seen one of these beautiful cutters on this side of the Pond, but I bet a boat like that could handle most of what the Atlantic can dish out -- especially if sailed wisely.

I can only take solace in reading others' blog entries -- and this one gave me lots of solace.

I don't know about being a "City of London type" (though I did do some 'time' there), but I'm always pleased to see that someone actually reads my blog!
I'll have an update soon, as I've just made it across Biscay before another batch of ugly weather set in.

Congratulations on dealing with Biscay's famous bad weather -- and welcome to SailFar.

BTW, I didn't mean anything negative about "City of London." I did time as a so-called "business journalist" before I stopped cheerleading for banks, insurance companies and real estate developers and started cheerleading for boats. A must better gig!

Not finished with Biscay yet but I'm doing my best to get out of the dreaded bay...
