I've never set a foot inside a West Marine store.

Admirable statement, Dancer.

Unfortunately, there is a WM not too far from where I used to work (when I had a job), and another very close to where I keep the boat. Being a type who doesn't plan far enough ahead, I often end up there for last-minute items, even though I know I can get them for less if I'm willing to wait for shipping or drive a couple of hours.

My bad, your good.

Hope  you all had wonderful Thanksgivings!

OK, there are some of us that do not live close to a small or otherwise chandlery, (closest WM is 2 hours away) so have to buy my goods online. Though I purchase most goods from Defender and the Sailboat Owners chandlery every now and again I cannot wait the shipping time from back east, West Marine has ALWAYS provided good service generally I receive my goods in a couple of days regular shipping. I have even noticed that they are making attempts at being more competitive with their pricing.

Now I agree I have typically received less than stellar performance instore, but online has always been good when needed.

Not so admirable...simply that I'm a cheapskate, swapper and never pass a marina dumpster without a cursory peek...lately I ran into a fella who tossed in a sailbag w storm jib for no reason than he had never used it and put it with the pile he considered junk.  Folks who bought the latest scientific anchor think nothing of tossing their redoubtable Danforth and there Iam to intercept.  Two hundred feet of anchor chain that wasn't shiny enough.  Multiple cases of tools and wrench sets thrown away because one piece was missing...ridiculous.  I honestly believe that if you need a hammer and you aren't in a hurry,  something comes along.  But call it a "marine hammer" and you'll pay double, need it yesterday and you'll be grabbing your ankles.  Thats my story and I'm sticking to it...  ;)

I should add that two of my biggest "freebie providers" are dock neighbors who are actually employees of WM who of make full advantage of their employee discount...out with the old, in with the new, and for me it's in with the old, and TYVM...lol...so I do benefit from WestMarina altho indirectly.  So, "Thank you West Marine"
