Ahoy; I am very sad to announce that the Sail Chicago's boat Emotional Rescue #303 broke her mooring bridles during a storm in Monroe harbor, Chicago, 2 weeks ago.

The insurance company totaled it out, so maybe it will come for sale cheap (and possibly with minimal damage).  One thing I've noticed, insurance companies are quick to total out glass boats.

It's one of the reasons I don't like carrying "full" insurance on my boats.  If the need arises, *I* want to be the one making the decision to repair her or not...not a bean counter that does not understand the soul of a boat or just how repairable they are.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  -Mark Twain

I'm curious, does anyone know? If your boat is totalled by an insurance company, are you able to purchase the hulk for a small fee? I know I have done this with automobiles, and I don't know if the insurance bean counters see any difference in those... they're just another line item on a claim.
If so, that would be a good thing... be able to restore the boat and have the money for it too.

It may be the boat I stay with for the rest of my days, unless I retire to a cruising/liveaboard life.

Kinda up for sale.

We had two boats and the trailer totaled. Insurance Co. gave us payoff and both boats. Trailer was junk. We still have the boats.
