RIP Hobie Alter

Passed away at age 80.

My little fishing skiff is a Hobie, and I have sailed many a thousand miles on his venerable 16, it will always be one of my favorites.

Although I was familiar with the many Hobie Cat sailboats, for some reason it never even occurred to me to ask myself where the name came from. Thanks Kurt for remarking on his passing, and giving me a reason to refer to Wikipedia and to learn something new...and how the sailboats grew out of Hobie's work building balsawood surfboards. I came close to buying a Hobie Cat 14 and trailer years ago, but was just late and missed out.
