I was just wondering how do you tell if a spinnaker is the right size? I was given a pair of spinnaker's that is supposed to be for my hunter 27 is there anyway of telling the correct size?

I Googled "Spinnaker sizes  for Hunter 27" and got a ton of results, many many sites with measurements

Yeah, just make sure you are looking at the correct Hunter 27 model.  I and J have changed over the model changes.

If in doubt, I'd contact a sail maker for help.  If they make sails for that model boat, they should be able to tell you how to measure it to make sure it's correct.

BIG difference though between a regular chute, and an asymmetrical. I wouldn't bother with a chute on Tehani, but seriously looking into an asymmetrical. No pole to worry about.

I have one here that is a TAD too large- looking into cutting it down

See what I mean- house peak is 26 feet up ;D ;D I THINK the foot is 28 feet :o

As a serious racing crew deck hand once told me referring to what the fore deck crew did compared to the helmsman  "any dick can hold a stick (tiller) it takes real skill on the deck". Anyone who has ever tried to douse a spinnaker after the wind became too strong will attest to the validity of that line  ::) ;) 

PS...I ordered a nylon 150 on one boat. Loved the simplicity of it for a light wind sail.Far less $$ than a typical genny and much better in very light air.

And wait til you do a spinnaker "Peel" when the wind gets up too high for the big chute. You hoist a smaller one inside the big one, then blow the guy on the big on and "peel" it off the little one, dousing it while still going on the other. Always have a full chute drawing. Can get hairy ;D ;D

And that's one time you sure want a steady hand on the helm.

Thanks everyone looks like the spinnakers (I was given 2) looks like they will work. Now all I need to do is make the running rigging and have a light wind day
