New Florida anchoring regulations coming

Love this quote:

Senator Christopher Smith of Broward County in his argument for the amendment suggested that 300 feet is too close: "There are boats sitting outside of people's houses?boats within 100 yards, looking into people's houses, discharging waste, doing all kinds of things in that city's water."

So...go after the behavior, then.

What is so hard about this?  If someone is breaking an existing law (illegally pumping waste into the water), enforce that law.

What is it with people that think the answer is always passing ANOTHER law?

What is it with people that think "ban the activity completely for everyone" because of the actions of a few...actions that are ALREADY ILLEGAL?

The problem is that boaters, especially transient boaters, have zero political clout. The only hope is for an organization like Boat/US to step in. This legislation is being pushed by a handful of wealthy and powerful landowners for the most part. These one-percenters are small in number, but large in influence. The average citizen could care less, and is probably completely unaware their legislators are wasting their time on stuff like this.
