Maritime Art Exhibit

The Coast and the Sea: Maritime Art Exhibit will be opening at the Portland Museum of Art in Portland, Maine later this month. Friday evenings the admission to the museum is free.

I like the art that they've chosen for the show banner (see below). Dressed a bit more formally than we do now... Many trolling their fishing lines from the catboat, with its long low boom. Wouldn't want to have an accidental jibe... and no PDFs in sight...

One of us posted this or similar awhile back, but wanted to repost here... I interpreted the painting as a depiction of the innocence, fun, and freedom of their carefree youth--while behind their backs, their future awaits them in the form of a larger schooner and working crew, heading far out to sea in all conditions to catch fish and provide food for society...
