So Facebook puts this ad in front of me for a "finely made, handcrafted model" of Ernest Hemingway's fishing boat 'Pilar'.

The ad copy says that making this model "required skillful craftsmen hundreds of hours to accomplish"...

Wow! All that work, and it's retailing for only $389.00. :o

But I think Hemingway would have had a real hard time using this boat, if the model is at all accurate...  ;D

For starters, the angle of the dangle of the propellor shaft is all wrong, next, it had two shafts, one for the big engine for relocating or cruising, the very small engine and propellor for trolling.  The big prop was in line with the rudder, the small off to the side.  I have seen pictures of Pilar in dry dock when Hemingway was actively using her, up for the storm season, and much later, on display for tourists, without the small prop.

The hours were likely for the prototype, the ones for sale were probably laser cut, jig assembled, and painted by pieceworkers at a dollar a boat
