I will keep my eyes open for you.  have your friend call the marinas in Groton and Mystic and ask if they have any sail boats that they want removed.  You may get several options .its worth a few phone calls . Good Luck

I have a nephew that may be going to MIT in a year or two- how bad is the winters up there on a boat? I could see living in MA on anchor during the summer, but all year around? Are there any coves which he could anchor, catch the bus and commute to MIT on a regular basis?
If it is doable, I will help him buy the boat, insulate it, and set it up for a liveaboard. He is really bright, but just not that rich. :(
When I'm sailing I'm free and the earth does not bind me...

He could get a slip at Constitution Marina in Charlestown, which allows year-round liveaboards, and it would probably be cheaper than a dorm or other student housing, given the prices in the Boston market.
