In Florida some years back there was a boat named "NGDPCOB" which I was told was short for "No God Damned Potato Chips On Board."

Steve,

Can you imagine trying to hail them on the VHF?

Hey, white boat with gibberish on the stern...you got your ears on, Good Buddy?

Something like 'Mae Daize'... Seen near Topsail Island, NC.

Never gonna hail that guy on the radio....

There is a boat named 'Au Revoir Petasse' at our marina, which is French for 'Good Bye B$tch'.

There is also one around Pensacola names "ANSORWE;"  I believe to be 'An So R We'.

This one takes the cake as the weirdest name I've seen. What have you come across?

Here's the link to the movie about this boat and it's crew:

:)  Just watched the video and really enjoyed it.  It definitely takes me back to my younger years of adventure.  There were quite a few of us pursuing very similar dreams back in the late 70s.  I'm glad to see that the free spirit approach to life is still there with the younger generation in a world that has very much changed.  By the way, I recognized the freight dock in Cape Hatien, Haiti, where the boat we sailed, an S2, split a 4 foot long crack in front of the keel in rough seas.  A friend and I spent 2 months on anchor in the harbor until we hauled out and made the repair on that freight dock.  If Larry or Fish happen to be on this website, I'd love to make contact after all these years.  We shared quite an adventure together!

I just watched that video a few days ago - I loved it! Although not quite as young as them, and not quite able to live in the "squalor" they were living in, it boosted my desire to just "get a boat and get out there". That's been my goal for about 6-8 months now, but it's been difficult for me to stick with the goal - I think because it's been hard to visualize. So much of what I read and see is much older people on much larger and more expensive boats, doing things the "proper" way.

There's a series of videos by a young guy attempting to sail around the UK in a 21 foot boat on youtube too. The videos themselves aren't as good as the other, but his experiences are great. Here's the first (of 17): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgOYR-5upgU

Moxie is a neat guy, IMO. I've read his sites/writings (a couple here - 1 , 2) and adventures for years. Thought about inviting him here sometimes, maybe I should do that now. Edit: Done

He is pretty well known in computer security circles (as a "whitehat hacker", or 'one of the Good Guys"), is obviously a very intelligent person and has brought to light some major vulnerabilities (and fixes) that have affected all 'net users, including you, even though you didn't know it. :)

I torrented a copy of "Hold Fast" last year, really enjoyed watching it, guess it is time for a re-viewing. :) I'll send him an email, let him know that y'all are appreciating his work, if not the boat name so much. ;D

A US 25 in the marina has been named "The His Way."  Maybe not the worst name to ever grace a boat, but it just rolls off the tongue awkwardly....boat names don't usually start with "The."

"The The His Way just rounded the buoy and is bearing off for the final run" just sounds weird to me.

I'm thinking about naming my Island Packet "Break Time".
It has two meanings:
1) It is time to take a break and go out on the boat :)
2) Now that I have the boat out it is time for it to break :(

Cruise

I had a buddy back in the day who lived on an old wooden boat named "Morning Wood".

Any sail boat regardless of size is a potential world cruiser, but a power boat is nothing more than a big expense at the next fuel dock

I aquired a bot some years ago named "Passing Wind"  :D

Saw a motor boat on a trailer today  named "Irish Wake" along with a cutesy caricature of some sort of Leprechaun / shamrock thingy.

i get the pun.  I'm just not too sure about naming a boat essentially a funeral.   :o

Oh I think Irish Wake sounds festive.

For dark humor, on one of my earlier and less confidence inspiring boats, I was thinking that maybe an apt choice would be...

the Titanic II

(Probably already taken...?)
