Title: My 1.42 minutes of fame
Post by: Fortis on June 11, 2008, 09:53:22 AM
Somehow, through a serious of cosmic co-incidences and congrous programming desicions I have become a TV star...Well sort of extreme background startdom, on three seperate programs on two different networks all int he one week.

There is a porgram that deals with police and emergency services rescues. I got a call from a friend about it saying "I think they have a story on that rescue of the crashed chopper you were involved in" SO I tuned in hoping to hear some details that the water polic never bothered to supply to us on the actual job, and there I am as the police divers hog the foreground. On the back of the coast guard boat herding traffic and laying out the fenders on a string with dive weight on the end that marked the parameters of the search grid.

Went to the news on another channel and they had a court case regarding a boat fire that had happened a year and a half ago finally getting a verdict. Reporter provides soundtrack while the pic is of me on another coast guard boat trolling for flotsam after the boat sank and marking the position with a bouy form the back deck.

Two days later. Different channel again, A hospital reality TV show that I switched on the last three minutes of before the news came on. "...Rescued Simon from 3 1/2 meter waves before ferrying him to the shore while perforning first aid and transfering him to waiting ambulance blah blah blah". In the background of the police seargent standing on the dock and talking is me helping to unload the porta stretcher with the guy on board from the CG vessel and carrying him and the defib/moniter to the ambos.

From about 2 years worth of actual time to me being super coast guard, ever present in a few totally random editing desicions...

I was not wearing proper uniform on one single occassion.... I had just hoped no one high up would ever notice.

Alex.

Ever silent, ever vigillent, ever standing on the back deck getting soaked to the skin in clothes that don't match my crewmates.
