The Microtransat Challenge and World Robotic Sailing Championship.  Way back in the day (in computer years anyway), before the World Wide Web this was proposed on the Internet and called the No-handed Trans-Atlantic Race.  Looks like it did get of the ground.

So ya make one of those, about 8-10 ft long, stock it with water and MRE's, and program it to follow your boat. No need to carry a liferaft! lol

Hm, actually they have golf carts like that.  You put your bag in them and carry this tracking defice and the thing follows you around.  You may have an idea there Cap.   ;D
