Title: So... a bad start to the New Year...
Post by: CapnK on January 02, 2008, 07:48:57 PM
The New Year didn't start so great for me.

It's a tale of woe and misfortune.

It illustrates why there are both pluses and minuses to having dogs aboard.

It's not the easiest thing to read, or think about.

I'm SERIOUS! This is not for the squeamish, or maybe children!

OK, well , then - You have been warned!!! Last chance to turn back!

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I got back to the boat at about 4:30 AM, Jan 1.

Some 10:30 PM coffee had kept me up chatting long after I'd stopped drinking, so being good and sober, I'd decided to just drive the 10 minutes back to the boat, instead of waking up to the noisy pitter-patter of niece and nephew that was sure to come *way too early* at my brothers house...  ;)

I went to sleep at 5, and the sun woke me at 10, still kind of tired.

I called and spoke with the girlfriend briefly about the plans for later that day, and then decided to lay back down. I had plenty of time, so I decided that I was going to nap for another hour.

:)

The boat was rocking lightly on a small wind chop, the temperature inside was just right for good deep sleeping - the best imaginable nap conditions. Ahhh...

8)

Um... Nope!

::)

It's been cold, so the CrewDogs have been allowed belowdecks at night. About 10 minutes after the phone call, just as I was dropping back off into welcome sleep, I hear CrewDog Buffetts stomach heaving.

:o

If you've ever had a dog, you know the sense of dread that sound will give you. Especially when said dog in *inside* your boat!

:-[

It's a noise that almost makes your own stomach start heaving. Yet...

It was nothing compared to the very wet, smelly poop noise that came right after.

:o  :-X  :'(

Yep, right on the cabin sole.

:'(  >:(

Equidistantly opposed piles of... vile, un-ignorable, 'stuff', straight from the interior of a dog.

:P :-X

Need more details?

I didn't think so.  ;D

I hope that y'alls New Year started off better than that.  :D

On new years morning my two year old son woke me up at 6.04Am by dropping a stainless steel number 36 sheet winch on my groin. It was a very heavy winch, and I think he was planning to wake me by putting it on my head when he lost his grip. He was very clever to have picked it up form the floor in the hall where it was sitting with its mate, ready to be taken for installation, and he demonastrated remarkable strength and co-ordination (not to meantion stealth) to carry it into my room after escaping his own, to lift it onto the bed and to climb up and make his way up the bed from the foot in order to give daddy a present....

I tried to keep all of that in mind as I woke up to the abrupt experiece and was mid curse before noticing his big smile at having daddy to "play with".

It is possible he just does not want siblings and is trying to make sure.

Flo - I'd take a couple little furballs any day over what Buffett can make!  ;D

Alex - That was *funny*! (Not in person, of course, but as a third party!) Especially:

LOL... Ouch Alex...ouch... you son may find out that dropping winches on the family jewels is not healthy for his survival either. :)

Alex-

BTW, I just realized... just be grateful you have a smaller boat... can you imagine the damage a 54 winch would have done?? :)

LOL...

Well, I was thinking about it since I was visiting S/V Restless last week, and the secondary winches are 54s... the primaries are even bigger... but what do you want for  50' steel boat. :) It might have worked in your favor, since the winches might have been to heavy for your boy to lift... but if he did manage to lift them... the damage that would have ensued...  :o
