Title: Almost Home!
Post by: carsail1260 on March 24, 2008, 05:34:24 PM
Hi Everyone,
We sold Yolo our 25D Cape Dory(a very good old boat!) and purchased a 2003 28' Catalina(no teak!).  We have been slooowly taking her around from Stuart, Florida to Bradenton, Florida via the Keys for the past 2 weeks.  We love our new boat, and are so glad we kept it small!  We've been offshore, baysailing, surfing and beating, presently at our first marina in 7 days and getting ready to use their hottub at Palm Island Marina.  Everyone told us we needed a bigger boat,  well we made them happy and us too!  I don't think 28' was the idea our friends had, but we plan to live on her for the forseeable future & we couldn't be happier with her performance!  We were sailing on a beam reach in 20 knot winds from Little Shark River to Marco Island & the 2 sailboats going the other way(much bigger I might add) were motoring or motor sailing.  On that sail we didn't turn on the motor for almost the entire way (52.3 miles) except to get into the channel at Marco Island.   We love this website, we'll try to post more of our 300+ mile oddessy when the euphoria wears off..
Cheers

Well, the Catalina is a lot bigger than the 25D was... it's probably beamier and carries the beam further aft and farther forward. :)  If they wanted you to get a 30'+ boat, they should be chipping into the boat kitty. :)
