Here's a video from the downwind leg of the trip to Tarpaulin Cove, back on August 18, 2007.

The weekend this was taken had some pretty nasty winds, with gusts of over 35 knots from what I was told. A friend told me that some moored boats in Newport had dragged and been damaged during that weekend. The wind was out of the north, and the video was taken during the passage from New Bedford to Menemsha. We were sailing under the genoa alone, and doing over 12 knots most of the downwind leg.
We actually decided not to go into Menemsha, since Menemsha Harbor faces Northwest and the entrance would have been pretty treacherous under those conditions. We ended up heading over to Tarpaulin Cove, on Nashuon Island, since the cove faces Southwest, and was well protected from the winds that day.
I hope you like the video. ;D
Very cool, man. Wow. Good shots.
Thanks Capn Smollett. It was a lot of fun sailing that weekend.... however, before we turned upwind, we double reefed the genoa... since we would be seriously overcanvassed for the upwind beat that took us to Tarpaulin Cove. :D
That was cool.
I'm impressed how you fit the band on there and keep them out of the shots :D
They're down in the cabin... ;) but I have them wired into the speakers in the cockpit.
Beautiful!
Thanks for posting it, Dan.
I'm almost in tears, because tomorrow is haul-out day for Creme Brulee. I can't leave her in the water any longer, and it's a day I always dread.
Sometimes, when I wait this late in the year, I have to fight my way out of the harbor, onto Buzzards Bay and into the boatyard. This year, I only hope I'll get to enjoy that One Last Sail.
As owner of an older monohull, I can only look with envy on the way your Telstar performs downwind, with just the genny flying. Whoooeeee!
Wait til next year!

Joe-
I hope to get a few more good sailing days in before I haul the Pretty Gee out. I've got her scheduled to haul next weekend... so I'm hoping the next few days will be good sailing weather.
I'm hoping to get the video of the upwind leg of that day posted later today. :D
