I've been in/out of here for years and often used it as a dry storage yard. I would often lament at how much money the owner was making and how little (0) he 'put back in'. No nice way to put it...it was a dump. A friendly dump mind you..but a dump none the less.
Well...the times they are a changing. Scott (the owner) has his own home close to done and now I presume has more usable funds. He has, in the last 2 years transformed the clubhouse and yards into a 'nice place'. It's incredible what a bit of interlock, some new tables/chairs, some beach sand, palm trees and a few gallons of paint will do. WOW.
Grog to Scott
I agree.
Here is what I saw when I went through there last time (http://sailfar.net/forum/index.php/topic,2946.msg31630.html#msg31630) (back in June).
The Indian Town marina and boatyard is a really dangerous place. The folks there are pleasant and helpful, the rates are reasonable, the town has good food, and most of what you may need, and the facilities are much nicer then any boat yard ought to be. There is a real risk that being 'on the hard' there may not be the abject misery that it is supposed to be. (//http://#039;on%20the%20hard'%20there%20may%20not%20be%20the%20abject%20misery%20that%20it%20is%20supposed%20to%20be.)
Craig...to truly appreciate it, you'd have to have saw it over the years. Even 3 years ago it was pretty 'worn'....as were a few resident drunks (myself excluded)
It has sure transformed.
PS...I'll be going thru those locks on tuesday....crossing weds.
This coming to you from the "art gallery'-coffe shop 'on the water' in Manatee pocket...where the live music is free and the merot is only $3 a glass ;D
That was where you were going that night we rafted up right?
I have a delivery coming up... I would pass through there but the boat as a 50' stick... (only have to heel 3 degrees to clear the RR bridge)...
Rose and I passed it up time before last... glad you are doing well. (What are you aboard right now?)
The bridge reminds me of "it's the people ya meet" thing. About 4 years back there was an older fellow...really nice guy. He was a professional horse trainer (whisperer) and a national qualified judge at horse events. He was single handing an older Beneteau. Ya couldn't get him excited with an explosion. He was heading W and asked if I'd come along to make sure he cleared the bridge. WOW...wanna see a composed guy get hyper ;D I couldn't beleave the change as we approached. He made it with about 2ft to spare but as any of us know...that close doesn't look like you'll make it. Reminds me I should call him. He was a nice guy and I still have his card. (why don't we do more staying in touch stuff)
Anyhoot....can ya tell I'm avoiding your question. Jubilee is still there at Green Turtle waiting. Last year was cold and windy and ruff. Trips from Manjack to Green Turtle were cold and WET with salt spray on the skiff. I got a deal on a slightly used Cdory 22 angler.....no more salt spray. I guess it still qualify's as "small boat-long distance". To be honest...I'm scared doing a crossing in a power boat. Never done it...new territory...no sail if the engine quit's....no keel. It's those "1st's" that scare ya. Weds looks really good tho....
Guess I'm "takin a walk on the dark side": ;D
I have been going to the Indiantown marina for many years noew and it certainly is becoming a much nicer place than it was. Good job folks.
