Title: Newport to Bermuda in Oct 2007
Post by: osprey171 on January 01, 2007, 07:04:32 PM
We will be making the passage from Newport to Bermuda in early October of 2007 in our Alberg 30, looking for other cruisers who are planning on making the same trip at the same time.  We're hoping to get a small flotilla of boats to make the trip together, share weather info, and celebrate the completion of a great passage upon arrival in Bermuda!  We'll be continuing onward to the Carribbean for anyone looking to do the same.

Are you by any chance looking for crew?

I can one-way US-Bermuda (and fly back), but I'm not sure if I can October.

Osprey 171:
Why stop in Bermuda?  It takes at least three days and costs about a grand.  I understand a lot of folks have to switch crew, take a shower, want to see the island, etc.  Having spent a lot of time there, I understand.  Bermuda is a nice place.  I like St Georges Dinghy Club a lot.

Sort of curious... did you consider a straight shot to the Caribbean?

The top place to pull in is St Martin (SXM) as it is the big city with all the services yachtsmen need.  Start at Mike and Sally's "Shrimpy's Bar" in Simpson Bay Lagoon.

And... if I hear about any other similar craft making the trip, I'll let you know.  What is your point of departure?

Best, Norman

This is a trip I would like to make.

Actually, at this point, almost any big trip would be one I would like to make.  The whole work thing is getting old and I'm not sure I'm up to waiting another 30 years to retire.  I wonder what the wife would do if I told her I was quiting my job and taking off sailing for a few months?

<shudder>

Best not think too long along those lines...

Osprey-

You'll definitely have to keep an eye on the weather window, since you'll be sailing down during the tail end of hurricance season... Hopefully, this year's season will be like last year's, and not like 2005's.  Depending on what happens this spring and summer with work, I may be interesting in joining you... so keep me posted.
