Title: Hurricane Storage
Post by: wolverine on February 20, 2025, 11:07:26 AM
I was researching storm prepping boats and found something I thing is much better than how we do it here in the states. Instead of the boats high up on stands, the yard has channels dug out and the boats rest on old tires with their keels below ground. They are then secured with straps to ground anchors. Even if the straps gave way the boats wont' fall, only tip over. Of course if the water comes up too high your boat floods. I'm sure insurance companies here would never allow a marina to operate with a bunch of trenches in the yard.

Yes, I've seen that done in the Carib for 'canes, and the SoPac for typhoons. Very good idea and eminently practical.

I've anchored my boats for 'canes where at mid to low tide they would sit in deep pluff mud. Sorta the redneck version of that. ;D
