Hey Everyone. So we have been on a cruise down the ICW with plans to go to the Bahamas. We've made it to South Florida but some personal issues have come up. And we might be putting the trip on hold for a while.I'm not sure if its premature, but I wanted to get some information to make a good decision. Does anyone know of a liveaboard marina, that might be ok of Stouts small status, in South Florida, probably West Coast. I really don't know Florida very well. Thanks.
Mangrove Marina on the W side of Tavernia Key is live aboard friendly.
Last I heard you could anchor in the protected mangove basin and for $200/mth... use their address, have showers, drop garbage and be part of their social live. Very friendly boaters there. The best dock is the S one.... great group.
Thanks Frank. I appreciate it. Unfortunately I'm not sure how long this stop will last and need to find a place that I can potentially get work or leave Stout for some time.
Sunset Bay Marina in Stuart has mooring. Located just a few miles below Ft Pierce. inexpensive and close to stores.
Of course, used to have a friend who lived aboard full time in ft Pierce City marina. Don't know what the fees are now- haven't been there since 1984

If you need to tie up to a dock I would consider going up to ft meyers. Keep in mind that liveaboard is a dirty word in florida. At our two municipal marinas here in the panhandle we allow 12 liveaboards for 248 slips. The basic rate is 287.50 per month plus a liveaboard fee of 125.00. That $400 per month . That is what I have to pay and I run the marina!! We have people come in daily looking for liveaboard slips that are simply not available. If I were you I would ask about a "monthly transient rate" that should be about $15 per foot and for your size boat $500 is what you can expect to pay for a legal liveaboard. Marina managers will overlook liveaboards if they are willing to pay good money ..but don't try to cheap out .THEY HATE PEOPLE WHO DON'T WANT TO PAY . And there are tons of people with deep pockets behind you who will rent that slip anyway.

With social media, if I was looking for work in SW Florida - I would just advertise myself as available to assist in anything boat related. Maybe stay away from complex jobs but be more of a "Johnny on the spot". There is always someone looking for a hired hand to assist with boat buffing, boat waxing, boat moving, boat sitting, picking up crew that has to get off a boat for a commitment...you can often pick them up in their own car. The key would be to be STONE RELIABLE. Just show up every time maybe 15 minutes early and your phone will ring off the hook. Maybe have a sliding hourly scale that starts with a decent minimum.
