Title: Phil Bolger 1927-2009
Post by: Frank on May 27, 2009, 09:25:45 PM
He was certainly a very open, creative  'out of the box' thinker. 680 designs in all. I remember truly enjoying his contributions in small boat magazine in the 80's. Saddly,he took his own life realizing diminishing mental capacity.

That is a bummer.  Like you, I loved what he called his "cartoons" if I remember and, of course, the elegant simplicity of most of his work.

Somewhere, I have a photocopy of a design of his.  It was a book of his called 20 Odd Boats or something.  It was Palo de Agua, an interesting little boat for a single explorer.   My mind raced with ideas of Central and South America in that little centerboarder.

Here's to Phil.
