Why have a vhf radio if you don't turn it on?
I've got some friends that are headed into St. Augustine from offshore. The entrance has 3 missing buoys and the CG put out a warning a couple of days ago. I had someone that I knew was within 10 miles of them to try and warn them on vhf 16 not to try to do the entrance. No response on the radio.
A 45' sailboat got beached/rocked just the other day. They are in a 45' center cockpit sailboat. I'm following them on spot.
Having been both into and out of St Augustine inlet several times, I can say it is, at best, tricky. It shifts around and buoys are constantly being changed.
NOT a good idea to run it without current info. I wish them luck.
They made it in ok. Got current information from BoatUS.
very good to hear
The chatter on the vhf makes it worthless or worse... Squelch has to be turned up so high no one who is not on top of you can hale....
Mine is alwa
