Title: Zen has left the dock
Post by: Zen on December 18, 2012, 04:49:10 PM
Well troops, it is on! After many years of planning and still not quite there...The ZenCat has cut the dock lines and we have been in passage almost two weeks. However as this is not a good time to travel down the coast of Nor Cal it is slow going, we sail ( mostly motor) and wait. Winds are generally suppose to be at our back, but with the storm season here they are mostly head head winds. So we sail port to port and wait for the Universe to say move.

Other wise check the zensekai2 blog.

And from time to time here on SailFar.

Fair winds

Title: Zen has had major problems
Post by: Travelnik on July 05, 2013, 02:26:40 AM
 :(

I just read that Zen and LZ couldn't finish the trip.

They had to call for rescue and abandon the boat.

Here is their blog: http://zensekai2.wordpress.com/

What a terrible ending. Something we all fear, sailing offshore.

I was glad to read in your blog that the rescue itself went well. What a very tough decision to make it was to abandon ship.

As you wrote, the main thing is that you and LZ are safe and well.

Boats can be replaced. Looking forward to your blog going on, and you eventually sailing again.

I've been out of contact for a long time and just saw this. How sad, but you are well--and in Japan. That's good karma, surely. Best to you and LZ.

Zen,
I have thought of you often as of late.  I have checked your blog and do not see any updates since July.

I hope you and lady Zen are doing well, and hope to hear from you soon.

For any not aware, Zens blog is a good read.  A man with the courage to follow his dream.... A temporary setback after the loss of his ship, (with the requisite fools who feel compelled to cast stones from their comfortable seat n the shore)....  The blog is a good read.

I've wondered about them as well, and would like to know how things have worked out in the last few months.

Ahoy mates. Just an update note. I have completed the required testing in Japan to receive a Boating licence which is required here in the land of the Rising Sun. I have been asked by Aoki Yacht Corp and Sailing School to join their team as a sailing instructor and delivery boat captain. Mostly in training so far, but have completed two trips. One from just outside Toyko to Osaka, ( appox (300 miles) traveling in the black of night 1/2 mile from shore in order to make it through the Black Tide with the boat under full diesel power and full sails creeping at 1 - 1.5 knots.
This was on a 30 ft beneteau sailboat. Nice boat, but not as nice as the older 27ft Com Pac which we sailed from Osaka to Okinawa ( appox 600 miles), in sometimes 35-40 knt winds and past an OMG whirlpool in a storm.

New blog is up zensekai2japan.wordpress.com

fairwinds my friends.
