Howdy everyone
I keep forgetting/missing the Thurs. night chats so I haven't been able to catch up for a while. Hope to see you this week since I'm off work.
I recently became a small sailboat owner again and thought I would share the news.
Last spring, I moved out to WA state with my girlfriend and have since been trying to adjust to living on the left coast.
We are living on the Olympic Peninsula, near a little town called Sequim.
Although there are several marinas within a 30 min drive, the waiting lists for slips are loooong and slip rent is pricey compared to what I'm used to. Unfortunately, there aren't many good places for long term anchoring/mooring close by and so it seems that as long as we live here, a trailer-sailer would be our most practical option.
But why let practicality get in the way of a questionable decision?
So I bought a 1972 CC 27' , in the water, in another state ;D
Actually, my decision made a bit more sense than that. I recently got a temporary job working on a research vessel down on the Columbia river in Oregon. I needed a place to live down there while working and affordable living situations were few and far between. Fortunately, the marina that I run the workboat out of happens to be affordable and so for $130 a month + the cost of a 50 year old boat, I should still still come out ahead of what I would be paying to rent a room for that time. I'm a bit rusty, but after 11 years living aboard, I should remember how to make that work. And I get a good old boat out of the deal! ;)
Or that was my logic when I decided to buy. It remains to be seen if this was a good idea or not. Stay tuned for further developments ::)
I got a great deal on it and its in decent shape overall. She's nothing special and not without issues, but sufficient unto the day. I made the trip downriver from Scappoose OR about 50 NM with no hiccups or headaches. She'll stay parked where she is for the duration of the job, at which point I'll decide whether to keep her where she is, sell, or repair in situ and sail her up to northern WA.
Here are a few pictures of the boat and the trip:

Great news! Am I the only one *not* seeing pics? :o
Strange. I wonder if it's a browser issue? Or maybe I should try hosting elsewhere?
I don't see any pics either
I posted using Firefox on my PC. Checked using Chrome browser on my phone and they show up both places. Any idea what's going on Kurt? I'll try a different hosting service and see what happens.

Work that time nice pictures
Beautiful sailing grounds!
Love the boat, nice styling. I prefer a tiller steer for the maneuverability in a marina and more cockpit room, but the wife never could get the hang of it.
Oh yeah, working now...
Being on the lightship when on-station must be a helluva job!
