Wellwe are starting on a long distance cruise to where ever we find ourselves is the best way to explain it.
We found a great Endevour 32 in Charlston SC and will head a little north to previson it ,and then we will head south.
Its not one of those best layed out plans but were kinda of jump in now (yea some say nuts) and know if we planned to long it might notever happen so I guess we will see were the wind takes us.
I have to credit Charlie and Laura for alot of the insperation and Captain Smollett for all his help on our last boats adventure. (Hey Joun the endevour is following rule#1 in sailing...keep the 1st mate happy ;D )
We are at Capt.K's marina at this time and hade a nice dinner last night and will check on his boat later before heading out in hope of meeting many others.
*Sweet* deal of a boat! Actually, though, it is 2 boats...
One boat is all put together, and being used.
The other boat they got is all in parts, scattered around inside of the first one, bagged, tagged, and ready to be used if/when needed.
Either that, or someone stole most of a West Marine store and then hid it onboard... ;D
Good for you both. Glad to have met you two. And Laura is grinning BROADLY at your move aboard ;D ;D
Congrats, Mario and Sherry.
Best of luck on your travels. And remember...we like to see PICTURES of adventures. ;)
Wow! Congrats!
That seems like a quick transition, did you sell the C-26?
What are your plans now?
It's too easy to over-plan. I like your decision to just do it. Sail far and grog.

Great - good on you!
I'm heading South as we speak. The original plan was to go to the BVI but Tomas is making that uncertain. Janet has to get on a plan 15 Nov and since you can pick schedule or destination but not both we aren't sure where we will be going - could be BVI, could be Abaco, or Charleston, or the Keys. Not sure 'til the weather sorts itself out.
Anyway, have a really great time.
we left Georgetown around the noonish hour do to Wx and made it Bucksport on the ICW were we were called to the docks to join an on going dock party. OH and the dock is free for the night. ;D pictures to follow. Theres 6 sailbouts and the one we were hanging out on was an Endevour 43 so we got to drool over our 32's bigger sister.
Bucksport is a neat little town...good anchorage for those enroute on the ICW.
How far North are you planning to go from there?
Congrats Mario, we moved from a Coronado 25 this Feb. onto our Endeavor 32. What a difference, we have spent 82 days aboard so far and love it. Only a few small trips but we are ready for more now. The boat is in Oriental, we live 150 miles away.
Hey Sid we might have lived near you. We were in Burlington (to far from the water) this Endeavour was a compromise between me and the first mate, sometimes looks and quality went hand in hand. we have sailed it and put 140miles of water under it and have not found anything about the E-32 we don't like.
We live right outside of Fayetteville in Eastover. Our dislikes were the old dangerous alcohol stove, we removed it; and the head, we removed it and installed a Natureshead composting toilet. We have the centerboard model 3 1/2 ft. draft and a mast height of 43 ft. Our checkout sail was in Feb. 48 deg. with a chilly North wind we went from Broad Creek to Oriental and loved how it felt on the water. Fair winds on your trip, we will probally be in Oriental some time around the end of the week or first of next week.
Well we have made it back to Charleston harbour to pick up a replacement drain pump for the Endeavour while the Chrysler C-26 is just doing great. I have had to jump aboard (literly) a few times to play crew/ set sails and just take over. We find ourselves being the only ones sailing the ICW not sure how Ga will be for that thou, We hope to make the Keys by T-day, we have been invited to a criusiers dinner. I think with all the sailing we have been doing good to average 30= miles aday.
LOL sorry for the long silence but the computer died and its not been easy to get the replacement.
While we are sailing around the Keys now, it the Miami Boat show (the sail only section) can't say I'm real impressed with the new boats. weather and winds been great for the most part and was able to sail most of the way.
Going on 5 months and still having a good time, there always seems to be a ton of boat stuff to do and now I'm working on brackets for the solar panel.
I some times hink i'm working harder now then when I had a real job. ;D
Hey Mario- Laura says to tell you Hi. Me too :D
Where in the keys are you? We should be sailing to Key West in the next 4 weeks.
Hey Charlie right now we are at Boot key harbor with about 300 0ther boats, what a great set-up, but will be heading north shortly to attend a family wedding and then head for the Chesapeake to hang out for the summer. Hope we can meet up somewhere along the way. Our plans are to do more of the outside on the way back.
Please tell Laura Hi Sherry's asked many times when you two would be back around.
We have had great weather thou it rained buckets yesterday, first rain in weeks and ofcoarse we were on shore so the days been spent getting things dried out ::).
We found we don't like to set still long.
Last week was interesting to say the least, Started when the main sail tore near the clew while sailing near St Lucie forceing us to come into the ICW and motor to Fort Pierce were we knew were a few marinas were hopeing to find what we needed to fix the main. The 1st mate ended up useing sail tape and stiching it which looked like it would hold well untill we could get to St. Augustine and Sailers Exchange where we might find a replacement. As we were sailing along at 5 to 6 knots at times I saw that the tape was comming undone but the stiching was holding well untill a #@*& motor cruiser speed past wakeing us causing the boom to slam to the other side ripping the foot completely across, so we dropped anchor near Indian town beach just before the start of 2 days of heavy storms ripped across central Florida. We were on the southern end were we had 70mph winds and up to 95 north of us. On Friday I reefed the sail and we are continuing on the wind was with us untill haulover canal and then we had to motor to our next stop in New Smyrna Beach. the winds were with us today and we made it to Datona.
;D Well were headed north again...wait we 1st made it to St. Augustine's but had no luck finding a replacement sail and headed back to Miami because it felt alittle to cold that far north , While back at Ft. Pierce our dingy was taken while in the anchorage(next one is always locked) The first mate got a great deal (1/2 price) on a new sail in Miami and then we had to train up to NC for a family wedding and ended up in Oriental were we got a great deal on a hard dingy, so life is good and except for stopping in Palm Beach to help a friend who's main wooden mast split on his 31 Person ketch we are sailing up the out side and having a great time.
We stopped at a marina near the anchorage that our dingy disappeared . We needed to prevision and it was just inside an inlet. We wanted to call the police station to see if our dingy turned up but found them to be closed on weekends :(
I guess timing is everything it works out the weather people were half right and not only did we get a little rain but thunder and lightning and high winds to go with it. We hit as much as 9.5 knots just five miles off shore,(the new sail is great) the first mate wants me to ..try ..to keep it in the 7knot range and I'm not sure I'm that skilled in 20knot winds yet.
Coming I we hit a swarm of what I think are called May flies. They had the whole boat covered, the jib had more freckles then me.
I was hoping to make Coco beach to see the launch but that might be scrubbed.
Started installing new ports but the hardwear is wrong and now have to wait until we can pick up new, but with out the dingy we have limited our shore leaves until we get to Oriental.
Sailed 65 miles on Sunday with 10 to 20 mile winds and had a great veiw from the deck of our Endeavour to see the shuttle Endeavour go into space.

...from the deck of our Endeavour to see the shuttle Endeavour...
Good thing that your boat isn't named "
Shuttle". That could get confusing... ;D
Coastal hopping
Did 68 miles comming up the coast yesturday and set for the day of recovering/ picking up a smaller head sail..just because it was a good deal...and did I say recovering
It got a little rough out there but not so bad that anything but me got tossed a little.
Skin missing of the 1st knuckle and a black and blue a$$ the first mate confurmed it.
Tommorows hop might only be 38 miles unless we get great conditions and do a 38 hour run.
68 is a BIG day!! You'll need some recovering. Have fun.
made another 40 yesterday but no wind this morning. but. We did make 17 miles by lunch so we might hang out a few hours and hope things pick up. I think we are heading out for a 250 mile run next. The winds are said to be in our favor and nothing but hot grulling sun, 97* today but the light wind made it bareable.
Mario, that's hot, if it is not cool enough in Chesapeake Bay area, you can always keep heading North (http://sailfar.net/forum/index.php/topic,3304.msg36348.html#msg36348)... ;)
Sorry to hear that your dinghy was stolen. Was it taken from shore, or...?
My dinghy was stolen a few years back, and I'm still bummed about it. :(
Fair winds,
Jim
On our way north we stopped in to see Capt.K in Georgetown. Had a great late chat. (I think your working to hard there K)
Looks like we are going to set for a month to get the new ports in and rest... It still gives us a few months in the Chesapeake Bay.
Where are you now?
We are on the Chesapeake, just above Norfolk
Ooooh, we need to have a Chesapeake rendezvous!
If you stop in Solomons, drop by Harbor Island Marina and have a look at Deep Blue.Sorry I am back in Colorado right now. Phil
We will definitely stop in Solomons. Gotta visit the museum again.
Right now we are setting in North Myrtle Beach. the plan is to hit Oriental from here for a few days then head up. This is the first time we have sat at a marina since starting. I'm still waiting for the new ports to arrive and have a few friends and family to take sailing in this area before we can move on. I think my first mate is ready to cut the lines already ;D
I'm going to be in and out of Annapolis--sailing--a good bit over the next few weeks, but call when you get in town and if I'm here you'll have rides.
Mario- we're just above Norfolk for a bit longer. Give us a call and we'll see if we can sail somewhere to meet you later on.

Well we hit Oriental today about 4:30 after covering 180 miles in three days thru the thick smoke from the wild fiers plaguieng NC at this time. Tomorrow I will be carring the dingy from the consignment shop.
Well I guess if you sail far enough in an older boat you will get a call on the VHF like we did yesterday from another boater giving you a little history about your boat. As a motor yacht passed yesterday its capt. radio'd to tell me he was the 1st to capt. our E-32 when it was owned by Camp Robinhood in Maine and how it was only day sailed a few times a week during the summer months then stored in a building the rest of the year.
He said it was nice to see it again and how he enjoyed sailing it when he worked at the camp. I told him it hasn't had many changes from original and up to a few months ago still had the original main sail on it.
So now I'm going to get in touch with the camp and see what info and hopefully some old pictures of her.
Last Monday we started south again. It was great when Charlie stopped in on his way down, I would have like to have left then but there were still a few things in Little River that we needed to attend to.
We stopped in Georgetown to visit Kirt and had a few drinks. As always its nice talking with him. (Kirt you have to come south)
The sailing has been great even stopping to take a few days rest we have gone about 185 miles in the week and stopped in Beaufort do to some nasty weather. Tomorrow is my birthday so I'm not sure if we will continue on and try to catch up with Charlie or hang out and look for some good Italian food.
Hi Mario,
"Good Times," eh? Ya'll have come/gone a long way in a year.
One question: When ARE you going to start posting pictures? ;D ;D ;D
Charlie is at mile 809.
Plan to get to Vero qnd visit friends, then stop at Stuart for a few days. Then I'll be hheading cross state to Ft Myers.
Stay tight whn that system gets to you. We had 57 knot gusts last nnight in St Augustine!!
We are in Jax Fl. with a broken shift cable. We are held up on the Ortega river waiting for a new cable, the good thing is there is a boat yard and a few chandleries. It took alittle to figure out how to remove the broken cable and everyone thats looked at it wonders how or why it broke the way it did. So while I'm waiting I'm going to help sand and paint another boat.
Well after setting in Jax for almost 2 weeks, mostly waiting for a part... that the boat yard had problems ordering then found they had 2 in stock we are ready to head out. I had gotten involed in preping the hull of a 38' Stevens design ketch for paint. (I thought I was retired from this) while sanding on the hull I got to watch the Blue Angels practice for an airshow this weekend.
We made it to Ft Pierce with a few days of favorable winds, hit 8knts at times and because the first mate made friends with the owner of Riverside boat yard the last time we were in the area and could get some parts at cost did an oil and transmission fluid change. Started out the next day and because we had to fight the current we motored untill the alarms went off...Oh $$hit what did I do wrong? Checked everything and nothing seemed wrong. Water and a little smoke from the exhaust but I figured because I just poured oil in the top of the engine that was normal. We sailed till we could anchor then being a retired grease monkey I started ripping the cooling system apart. I did start by diving to clean out the thru hull but found nothing there and the filter looked clear. Seams sea grass collected at the elbow, only took taking the whole system apart to find it...what away to learn about your cooling system.
We are now in Miami and might cross from here to the Bahamas.
We thought about going back down to Boot Key but might find someone to cross with from here.
Congrats you two.. Man I wish I could make that jump with you. I loved the Bahamas.
Sounds like you are aiming for West End. Have a ball.
Maybe another year I'll make it back.
Keep in touch
We did the Miami boat show again had to get some lower shrouds made up, what a difference. We are coming back up the coast again still taking our time. We did get to see the Ex presidential motor yacht Honey Fitz when we dropped anchor in West Palm beach, if I were in to motor boats it would be on my want list.
Will post pictures when I am not using air card
We are sailing the Ca few hesapeake area now. its been very warm and little wind, but we have been able to check out a few areas. Visiting with family in the Annapolis area and looking at alot of boats. This last Sunday a lightning storm followed the low front that was bring cooler temps. I thought I was safe sitting in the cockpit watching the storm move past us to the north but saw the steering wheel light upand got sapped by a bolt of electricity. It took a second to get my marbles aligjned then jump in the cabin. It felt like getting hit by an old car coil( 15,000 volt area) From now on you will find me hanging out in the cabin if I see the first sign of lightning.
there seems to be no lack of places to sail around here and when I lived here 15+ years ago I knew nothing about it.
Finished work at the boat yard in Annapolis last Friday and headed down the coast this Tuesday. Plans this winter are to make it to the Bahamas with a few stops along the way to visit Capt.k and Captain Smollett & family.
So far the Chesapeake has been flat with just enough breeze to sail 2 to 4knots at the best. forcast for 10=knots of wind for the start of this weekend with a chance of rain, but we hope to be in Norfolk before it gets bad.
Hard to believe that it will be 2 yrs end of October since we originally moved aboard and started out.
Tomorrow will be our 2 year anniversary ;D and the saying "Time flys when your having fun" really seems to fit.
Just looking forward to year 3 and the adventures it may bring.

congrads, you guys still in the chesapeake?
Believe it or not we are on the west coast of Florida right now( Ft, Myers) we had some good sailing down to Boot Key then around the west side. Not going any further north, its just gotten to cold ;D.
Stayed about a week in Ft Myers, then set south again. Anchored at Gorden pass were we had 3 tour boats( 1 a sail catamaran) circled our boat telling people about the multimillion dollar homes. We then anchored at Marco Island, when we motored out the channel back into the Gulf of Mexico our engine quick. I had the idea the pick-up tube in the tank was clogged again but because the wind was with us for the 3 days it took to get back to Marathon we just enjoyed the sailing.
When we had favorable winds we set sail to come back to Miami via the gulf stream so we could make it back before another cold front rolled thru.
While in Boot key harbor I picked up a complete sail kit for our walker Bay dinghy very cheap. What a blast it is to sail.
We are back in Miami but will not be going to the boat show this time, the plans are to start back north by the end of the month depending on winds.
Sure glad to hear from you two. Wish I could visit with ya'll again. Maybe this summer. Keep on posting :D
