While not a Sailfar kind of sailor, Ned Cabot was a pioneer of high-latitude sailing and a man with wide-ranging interests, including supporting Maine's Working Waterfront Fund and the Sea Education Association of Woods Hole.

We don't normally move in the same circles (like, never), but I once had the pleasure of meeting Ned, sharing a meal with him and watching a slide show on his first cruise to Greenland. He was swept off his boat near Newfoundland on Sept. 3. My sympathies to his family.

Joe, sad indeed. I never met Ned but know his son. Mary's daughter sailed on Cielita to Greenland a few years ago. By all accounts someone to admire.
