well i hope we cross bows and not wakes....were not pushing hard either.

the tenn-tom reminds me of the bahamas. outside the channel you can wade ankle deep.

we have only run aground 7 times though!

Tehani and I are atPensacola. Anchored in a spot called Little Sabine Bay.

Should have stayed in Fort Walton Beach!

If I'd had any idea what the winds were REALLY gonna be, instead of what they were forcast, i would have.

But here I am. Got very wet, very chilled and very tired. Saw the end of my rope!! Goods thing there was a knot there

Forcast was W 10-15. Actual was W 20-26!! Right on the nose.

34 miles of spray coming over the decks and cabin top. I did something today I've never done before- put the top rail of the bow pulpit THROUGH a wave.

Twice!!

Glad I made it (tough little boat) but I sure wish I'd stayed put. Just now getting warm, after 3 hours here.

Sounds like one of those times your thankful to be in, anchored and in your bunk. Must be feeling a bit "beat-up" !!  Have a rum CJ...relax, stay warm and take care.

wow that doesnt sound like fun...glad your warming up.

CharlieJ

It most definitely was NOT fun. And I should have reversed course early on. But I kept thinking things would improve- instead they worsened.

I felt every one of my years by the time I got anchored.

I sincerely will try to NOT do that again. It's one thing to get caught out- entirely another to go out INTO it!!  The first is the breaks, the second is dumb. I was dumb yesterday.

And yeah Frank, I had that rum, while in the bunk under the blankets.  But I had a hot meal and three cups of hot chocolate first.

Gee whiz, Charlie, you are having your share of weather on this trip.

Here's a virtual grog to help with the warming up, and here's to hoping from here to TX, the skies improve.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  -Mark Twain

Glad to hear your ok Charlie , the cold front rolled thru here last night but was atleast dry. Seems some one anchored out here was tring to keep warm useing and open flame causeing the boat to catch fire. Seems they got off before rescue got to boat.

Hope the rest of your cruise goes better

Hey Charlie, I sent you a pm.  Take a break and come warm up and dry out.

Tehani and I are now WEST of the Mississippi River. Will be in the area of Intercoastal City tomorrow. David Grimm (Grime) will be joining me for thelast 6 or 7 days. Looking forward to having company.

Weather has been pretty crummy last few days- cold and windy. Warmed a bit today thankfully.

At 11:42 AM, Tehani crossed the border into Texas. David is crewing and steered her into and across the Sabine River.

First time in Texas waters in to years, four months and 12 days!!

Ben fun but good to be in Texas waters again. Won't be but a few more days and we'll be in her home slip.  :D

Any sail boat regardless of size is a potential world cruiser, but a power boat is nothing more than a big expense at the next fuel dock

As of 1645 this afternoon, Tehani is moored in her home slip in Pt Lavaca, Texas, and I am at my house.

A recap of the last few days after I have a chance to unpack and unwind. The last 6 days have been wearing.

Congratulations on completing the cruise. It must be good to be home. Looking forward to your report of the recent leg, and to rereading the whole cruise log.

Grog to you, and fair winds for whatever is next.

I made it singlehand from the Chesapeake, around, across the gulf and through Mississippi sound, across the Mississippi River and into central La. Then was joined by my  friend David (Grime) who has posted my positions all these months, for the last leg into Texas and home. Was really glad for the company..

On this cruise, Tehani began with Laura aboard single hand for the first three weeks, and me aboard single hand after our seperation, for the last 4 1/2 months.

She is now snugged in her home slip and who knows what will transpire in the next few months. She does need a refit, since she's sailed right at 10,000 miles since we launched her some 5-6 years ago.

This cruise covered  2 years, 4 months and a few days. Covered 6885 miles, and included the entire gulf coast, the keys, Bahamas, east coast, Potomoc River, Chesapeake Bay and back around to Texas.

I did 2190 miles singlehand and found I don't like sailing alone. :-\

All in all a pretty good trip, with virtually zero problems. A solar panel Charge controller quit and was replaced under warranty (Morningstar controller) good folks..

We had one battery go bad and replaced it.... otherwise, nothing. The value of a small simple boat.

Mostly we had a wonderful time, but I'm ready to stay home for a while. ;)

Thus ends "from Tehani, out cruising"
